The Civic Holiday is late this year falling on Monday, August 7, 2023. If you’re staying in the city, it’s a great weekend to strike some of the items off your summer bucket list! Most businesses and attractions are open on the Civic Holiday, which is not a statutory holiday. If you’ll be in Toronto for the August long weekend, continue reading to find out about Toronto events on the August Long Weekend 2023.

VELD Music Festival 2023

The VELD Music Festival returns to Downsview Park on the Civic Holiday Weekend 2023. The festival showcases electronic dance music and hip-hop from Friday, August 4, 2023, to Sunday, August 6, 2023. Musical acts appearing include:

Above & Beyond, Illenium, Kaivon, Loud Luxury, Rezzmau5, Tiesto, Sofi Tukker, Meduza, Zedo, Matroda, Slander, Lancey Foux, Funtcase, Gareth Emery, K-Trap, J. Worra, Zingara, Two Friends, Gorgon City, Sullivan King, Lost Frequencies, Timmy Trumpet, Don Diablo, Eli Brown, Subtronics, Twinsick, Wooli

Dream in High Park 2023

One of the most popular Toronto events on the August Long Weekend is Dream in High Park, Canadian Stage’s production of a Shakespeare play. This year, Canadian Stage will perform Shakespeare’s romcom A Midsummer Night’s Dream at High Park Amphitheatre. Directed by Jamie Robinson, the play takes place on the night before Theseus and Hippolyta’s royal wedding when four young Athenians escape to the forest to find true love. In the forest, the fairy Puck has some fun with his magic love potion while a group of workmen rehearse a (hilarious) play for the wedding.

Performances on the August long weekend 2023 are on Friday, August 4, 2023, 8 p.m., Saturday, August 5, 2023, 8 p.m., and Sunday, August 6, 2023, 8 p.m. Tickets are $29 plus HST. Pay What You Wish tickets are available online at noon the day of the performance or at the gate beginning two hours before the performance. Pay What You Wish tickets start at $5. Runtime is 90 minutes. High Park Amphitheatre is located at High Park, 1873 Bloor Street West.

Hamilton at Princess of Wales Theatre

The 11-time Tony-Award-winning Hamilton has been extended at the Princess of Wales Theatre. Performances on the August long weekend take place on Friday, August 4, 2023, at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, August 5, 2023, at 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, August 6, 2023, at 1:30 p.m. Tickets are $169, $149, $119, $89 and $69. Purchase tickets online or at Princess of Wales Theatre Box Office. The Princess of Wales Theatre is located at 300 King Street West.

Toronto Caribbean Carnival Grande Parade 2023

Undoubtedly, the most popular of Toronto events on the Civic Holiday weekend 2023 is the Caribbean (formerly Caribana) Parade. The parade takes place on Saturday, August 5, 2023, from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Exhibition Place. Watch over 10,000 masqueraders perform, with additional live performances. Food and drink will be available for purchase. Most of the parade is held on Lake Shore Blvd. West, which is free. Tickets, however, are required for nightlife events.

The Drums at Danforth Music Hall

Indie pop group The Drums play The Danforth Music Hall on Sunday, August 6, 2023 at 7 p.m. The opening act is Cold Hart. Tickets are $29.50 and $39.50 plus fees and can be purchased online at Ticketmaster. This is an All-Ages event. Danforth Music Hall is located at 147 Danforth Avenue.

The Toronto Food Truck Festival 2023

The Toronto Food Truck Festival returns to Woodbine Park in 2023 from Friday, August 4, 2023, to Monday, August 7, 2023. Enjoy a wide variety of cuisine including vegetarian, vegan, Halal and gluten free options from popular Toronto Food Trucks, while listening to live music. Beer will be available for purchase. Some of the food trucks at the festival include Grill N Thrill Kabob, Real Empanadas, Riceball Man, Northern Smokes Smoked Brisket and Ribs, Philthy Philly’s, Heavenly Dreams Ice Cream, Century Delight, El Rompo Movil Mexican Street Food, HK Station, Cheesecake by Heirloom, Tropic Love, Kono Pizza, hoco Churros, Holy Shakes, The Arepa Republic, Communal Eats, Bubba Lou’s, Ontario Corn Roasters, Craig’s Cookies, Poutine Machine, Rebozo Taqueria and Tornado Fries.

Contestants will be participating in eating challenges to win prizes. DJ and music performances by Pearl Jamming, The Hip Experience and Crooked Zebras. SickKids Foundation is the charitable partner of Canadian Food Truck Festivals. Free admission. Please make a cash donation to the hospital at the entrance to the festival. Hours are Friday, August 4, 2023, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, August 5, 2023, from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m., Sunday, August 6, 2023, from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Monday, August 7, 2023, from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Woodbine Park is located at 1695 Queen St. E. (Lake Shore Blvd. E. and Coxwell Avenue).


Concerts at Harbourfront Centre 2023

Harbourfront Centre is offering several free concerts and performances on the August long weekend 2023:

Friday, August 4, 2023, 9:30 p.m. – Nailah Blackman and DJ Power perform on the Concert Stage.

Saturday, August 5, 2023, 5:30 p.m., 6 p.m., 6:30 p.m., 7 p.m., 7:30 p.m., 8 p.m. – Empress Mashup perform island sounds on the Stage in the Park.

Sunday, August 6, 2023, 4 p.m. – Songs for a Summer Garden, Opus 8 will be performed at the Toronto Music Garden.

Queens of the Stone Age at Budweiser Stage

Queens of the Stone Age bring their The End is Nero concert to the Budweiser Stage (formerly Molson Amphitheatre) on the August long weekend. The concert takes place on Friday, August 4, 2023, at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m. Opening acts are Phantogram and The Armed. Available tickets are $256.06, $218.25, $77 and $54.25 and can be purchased online at Ticketmaster.

Rufus du Sol Summer ’23 Tour at the Budweiser Stage

The Rufus du Sol Summer ’23 Tour comes to the Budweiser Stage (formerly Molson Amphitheatre) on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at 7 p.m. Opening act is Monolink. Tickets are $315.36, $258.23, and $184 and can be purchased online at Ticketmaster. Budweiser Stage is located at Ontario Place at 909 Lake Shore Blvd. West.

Jason Isbell & 400 Unit at Massey Hall 2023

Jason Isbell & 400 Unit will perform at Massey Hall on Friday, August 4, 2023, at 8 p.m. Tickets are $101.53, $125.23, and $156.33. Massey Hall is located at 178 Victoria Street.
